4 Kids Among Five Drown In Water Body Near Maharashtra's Bhushi Dam
All five people who drowned belonged to the same family, Pune SP Pankaj Deshmukh said

At least five people, including four kids, drowned in the water body after the Bhushi dam overflowed due to incessant rain in Maharashtra’s Lonavala on Sunday.

The incident happened at 1:30pm, following which search and rescue teams rushed to the spot.

“2 bodies have been recovered. Search and rescue operations are underway. All five people are from one family belonging to Pune Sayyed Nagar,” Pune SP Pankaj Deshmukh said.

“We have recovered the bodies of a 40-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl. Two 6-year-old girls and a 4-year-old boy are missing in the incident. It seems they are part of a family and slipped into a waterfall some two kilometres away from Bhushi Dam and drowned at the reservoir downstream,” Deshmukh was quoted by PTI as saying.

In April 2024, the Ghataprabha River in Karnataka led to water-clogged streets in Belagavi district. This happened due to the overflow of water from a local dam to the river.

The Raja Lakhamagouda Dam, alternatively referred to as the Hidkal Dam, is built across the Ghataprabha River within the Krishna River basin. Positioned in Hidkal village within the Hukkeri Taluk of the Belagavi, it serves as a significant hydraulic infrastructure.
