3 die as car plunges into gorge

KOTTAYAM: Three persons, including two kids, were killed when the car in which they were travelling fell into a gorge between 14th Mile and Kanjiraparra near here on Tuesday morning.Lissy, 54, of Palakkal House, her grandson Amal, 8, and her relative Roy’s two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Sona, were killed in the mishap, police said.Five others travelling in the car suffered serious injuries. Lissy’s son Sabu, who was driving the car, her another son Byju, Roy, his wife Nisha and their daughter Dona were injured.The two families were going to Karukachal to consult a doctor for Amal.They had left their home in Kumily at 5 am and it was around 8 am that the accident happened, police said.Immediately, the locals swung into action. Lissy and Sona were rushed to MGDM hospital in Kangazha, where they succumbed to injuries. The others were rushed to the Medical College Hospital here, where Amal died.The driver perhaps dozed off or lost control while giving side to another vehicle which resulted in the accident. The car was taken out using a crane.
