2 elephants electrocuted

BERHAMPUR: Carcasses of two elephants were found near Minor irrigation project (MIP) under Ganjam block on Monday night. Though the reason for deaths was yet to be ascertained, circumstantial evidences pointed to electrocution, said Berhampur DFO Ajay Kumar Jena. The carcasses were found about 500 metres  from each other. They may have been part of the elephant herd that was chased away from Chandaka near Bhubaneswar. It is suspected that some villagers may have laid live wires near the MIP annoyed with the persistent disturbances caused by the elephants. The total number of deaths in elephant attacks in Ganjam district during the last three years has mounted to nine.
