SIRSI: As per the decision taken in the Cabinet meeting held recently, 1,700 science lecturers will be appointed to pre-university colleges in the state, informed Minster for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri here on Sunday.He was speaking after inaugurating the Uttara Kannada district-level Pre-University Colleges’ Educational Convention at JMJ Education Institution at Chipgi. This year the science stream has been started in 500 colleges and commerce stream in 300 colleges, he said. As per the instruction of the Central government certain changes may come in primary and secondary education, he informed. There is instruction to link eighth standard to primary section and ninth to twelfth standard to the secondary section, he said. The experiment has already started in some other states under the National Secondary Education Scheme, the minister said. In the state, an expert committee has been set up to study the impact of the new system, he said.Kageri appealed to lecturers to give up their strike regarding disparity in salaries as a separate committee has been set up to examine the issue in detail. No decision can be taken as of now, he said.
