13 Soldiers Among 14 Dead in Himachal Building Collapse, Rescue Operations Complete
The Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force and police jointly carried out the rescue operation. The National Disaster Response Force team was also called from Panchkula in Haryana.

Solan: As many as 13 army personnel and a woman were among 14 who died after a four-storey building collapsed on Nahan-Kumarhatti road in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Sunday.

Around 42 persons, including 30 army personnel, were said to be in the building at the time of the incident. Rescue teams have retrieved 14 bodies from the debris, and pulled out all surviving victims.

The rescued, who sustained several injuries, have been admitted to a hospital nearby, as teams of the NDRF, and personnel from the army, state home guard and fire department are engaged in the rescue operations.

The building located on the Nahan-Kumarhatti road housed a restaurant on the top floor. It caved in due to torrential rains in the area.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur visited the spot to take stock of the rescue efforts. He ordered a FIR against the restaurant owner and said that an inquiry will be carried out to ascertain the reasons behind the incident. "Rescue operations started on time, then we called NDRF too," he said. He further added, "The reason for the collapse will be clear after the report comes out. There was surely some problem with the structure of the building."

The army jawans of the Assam Rifles who were killed or trapped had reportedly come to the restaurant from the nearby Dagshai cantonment to celebrate the promotion of one of the colleagues. The woman who died was identified as the restaurant owner's wife.
