The social networking giant has now increased the limit of Facebook status updates to more than 60,000 characters.

New Delhi: It seems that Facebook has rolled up sleeves to always stay ahead of its rivals. This year, Facebook has rolled out scores of new features to users' profiles and now it has announced one more update. The social networking giant has now increased the limit of Facebook status updates to “more than 60,000 characters.”

Facebook’s Journalist Program Manager Vadim Lavrusik, in a blog post, said that "In September, we increased the character limit on status updates to 5,000 characters. Today, we're announcing that you can now write posts with more than 60,000 characters." Following this, it has been found that the user can now post a status update of up to 63,206 characters.

In the beginning, the limit was restricted to 160 characters. Later in March 2009, the company escalated the limit to 420 characters. In 2010, the limit was not upped at all. But in 2011, Facebook has increased the character limit three times. The status update limit jumped to 500 charcters in July this year and later in September to 5,000 characters. And not even two months have passed, the company once again has stepped up the limit to 63,206 characters.

Twitter on the other hand has a limit of 140 characters. However, Google Plus scores above Facebook. It lets you post updates of length of about 1,00,000 characters. Now, let's see when Facebook will surpass Google Plus' character limit.
