Maharashtra: In Maharashtra, another farmer has committed suicide in Nashik.

This is the 11th suicide in the state in the last 48 hours. It is also the 19th in Nashik since the Prime Minister's visit.

Fifty-year-old Ramachandra Pawar hung himself to death because he had to repay a loan of Rs 1 lakh to the District Bank and Society. He hailed from Manur, Tal Kalwan, in Nashik.

At least 31 districts across various states have been identified as ‘suicide-prone’ and a special package is being worked out to meet needs of farmers there, Government representatives told the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Stating the Government intended to make available short-term farm credit to maximum agriculturists, Finance Minister P Chidambaram admitted in the House that tenant farmers were finding it difficult to avail short-term credit loan at seven per cent due to lack of documents and steps were underway to overcome this problem.
