GUNTUR: About 1,000 families living in villages located on the banks of Krishna were evacuated on Tuesday following the river floods. The Prakasam Barrage is getting heavy inflows following lifting of 26 crest gates of Nagarjuna Sagar.
The people of Guttapalem, Kolluru and Pulichenta villages were shifted to rehabilitation centres. Several villages in Bellamkonda and Dachepalli mandals are likely to face flood threat in the coming days. The National Disaster Management team, which has been geared up for rescue and relief operations, is closely monitoring the flood situation. About 3 lakh cusecs of water is likely to flow downstream with the lifting of Nagarjuna Sagar crest gates, Guntur RDO Senapathi Delhirao said.
