Get weapons ahead of time. When first entering the Pitt, ask Werhner for a concealed pistol. There is also an AK-47 lost in the Steelyard and a baseball bat in a slave stash.
Repair your armor. You probably only have slave rags, so repair it with garments of dead slaves. There are several located in the Steelyard. Collect as many steel ingots as you can and return them to the Steelyard manager, and he may give you better armor as a reward.
Rest. Sleep to get full health before going to Ashur's announcement.
Go to the Hole. Talk to the organizer. She will let you pick an extra weapon from the locker.
Go into the arena. If you've managed to find any Rad-X, take it immediately. Stay back as far as you can; the radiation affects you immediately. If you found RadAway, do not take it immediately, as it only works for curing existing radiation poisoning. Wait until later in the fight.
Wait for the gates to open. Quickly locate the slave with the combat shotgun. This slave will do the most damage to you; the others carry varying pistols.
Kill the slave with the combat shotgun. Then proceed to kill the others. Be sure to pick up and repair weapons and armor.
Exit the arena. Take meds for the radiation, then drink from the water fountain to get full health.
Go back in. Using any guns you have, kill the Bear brother with the flamethrower. Make sure to keep moving to avoid the Bear brother with the Deathclaw gauntlet.
Kill the second Bear brother, then leave. Rest up, and prepare yourself.
Go back in. Again, use a gun.
Lock onto the champion with V.A.T.S. Aim for the weapon and fire.
Kill Gruber once he drops the Infiltrator.
