- Visit https://www.target.com/giftcard/check-balance to check your gift card balance online. Type in the card number and access number to check your balance.
- Log into your Target account and select “Gift cards” to see the balances of your saved gift cards.

Online
Visit Target’s gift card balance page. Go to https://www.target.com/giftcard/check-balance and sign into your Target account. If you don’t have a Target account, you’ll need to create a new one in order to check your gift card’s balance. Click on “Create your Target Account” on the page. Then, just provide your name, an email address, and a password to complete your account.
Enter the card number and access number in the matching boxes. Look for the 15-digit card number and the 8-digit access number underneath the barcode on the back of your gift card. Type the card number, including the dashes, in the first text box and the access number in the second box. If there’s a gray strip covering the card and access numbers, gently scratch it off with a coin.
Click “Check Balance” to see the amount on your gift card. Double-check that the numbers are correct before clicking the button. When the next page loads, the site will display the remaining balance on your card. Write the balance down on the back of your card so you don’t forget how much is left on it. If you get an error or a message that reads “Scopes don’t match,” check that you typed the numbers correctly. If you still get an error, try checking your balance over the phone or in person.
Check the balance of saved gift cards in your account settings. If you already saved a gift card to your Target account, log in and click on your name in the top right corner. Select “Gift cards” from the menu on the left side of the window to see all the gift cards you have saved to your account and their balances. Click “Save a new gift card” if you want to add one to your account to order online.

Call 1-800-544-2943 to reach the gift card support line. You can call the automated line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to check your gift card’s balance.
Press “1” to check your gift card’s balance. When the automated voice starts listing options, select the first one to hear the remaining balance and the last 5 transactions on the gift card. If you have other issues with your gift card, like if it’s lost or stolen, wait and listen for the other options.
Enter the 15-digit card number. Look for the number starting with “04” underneath the barcode on the back of your card. Use your keypad to type in your card number. Press the pound sign (#) when you’re finished entering the number. Scratch off the gray strip on the back of your gift card to reveal the card number.
Type in your gift card’s access number to hear your balance. Locate the 8-digit access number on the back of your gift card directly underneath the card number. Enter the access number when you’re prompted and press “#” when you’re finished. After that, just listen for the automated voice to tell you the remaining balance on your card. Once you hear the balance, write it down on your gift card so you don’t forget how much is left on it. Stay on the line if you want to hear the last 5 transactions on your gift card or if you need your balance repeated.
Troubleshooting
Visit a Target store to check the balance if you have technical problems. If you get an “Scopes don’t match” error online or have trouble using the phone line, go up to a cashier or the service desk to have an employee check the balance on your gift card. They’ll do a balance scan on your gift card and tell you how much you have left to spend.
Contact 1-800-544-2943 if you have trouble redeeming your card. If you know your card has a balance but it still won’t apply to purchases, dial the support line to report the card issue. When you hear a menu of options, choose the one that matches the issue you’re dealing with. You’ll connect with a representative that can help you solve the issue. Have the card number and access number ready since you may need to enter them or tell them to the representative.
Replace your gift card if you have the original receipt. If you lost your gift card or if it won’t scan properly, take it to a Target store with the original receipt. If they’re able to read the access number, they may be able to replace the card for you. Otherwise, contact 1-800-544-2943 to request a replacement. If your gift card was partially used, your replacement will have whatever balance was left over.
