London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said midfielder Jack Wilshere will not be allowed to play in the London Olympics even though he is available for Euro 2012.
Wilshere failed to play a single English Premier League game for Arsenal this season due to an ankle injury, but he is now expected to make a return in the next few weeks.
Wenger said he could play with England in Poland and Ukraine, but he will not play with Team Great Britain in the Olympics.
"Wilshere going to the Euros is a decision that fortunately I don't have to make," the Frenchman was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "I would only intervene if I believe that medically he's at risk."
"The next three weeks will decide what happens. We'll see how well he progresses. We have taken a very cautious approach with him. The Olympics destroys the start of the season for us. If he could play, we'd rather be happy if he went to the Euros than the Olympics," Wenger said.
