Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge scored within 12 minutes of his return from injury to help Liverpool beat West Ham 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Sturridge came on as a second-half substitute and his angled shot in the 80th found the bottom right corner after being set up by Philippe Coutinho.
Earlier, Coutinho set up Raheem Sterling to score in the 51st at Anfield.
Liverpool moved above West Ham into seventh place with its third straight league win.
In another match, second-half strikes from Sammy Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran ensured John Carver's spell as permanent Newcastle head coach got off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory over Hull City.
Carver, without a win in four games as caretaker of the midtable Magpies, watched Frenchman Remy Cabella score his first Newcastle goal after pouncing on an error by Andy Robertson 10 minutes before half-time at the KC Stadium.
Ameobi's long-range second and a late strike from substitute Gouffran confirmed a third straight defeat for the relegation-threatened hosts.
Romelu Lukaku's early goal gave Everton a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, handing Alan Pardew his first loss since taking over the London club.
Lukaku tapped in from close range after Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni could only parry a cross from Steven Naismith into the striker's path in the second minute.
It was Everton's first win in nine games in all competitions, and put the team three points clear of Palace in 12th place, with 26 points from 23 rounds.
Palace came close to equalizing shortly after the goal but Phil Jagielka cleared the ball off the line after a flick by Dwight Gayle.
