Manchester: Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says Michael Carrick will miss about four weeks with a muscle injury, depriving the team of a player who has been instrumental in their improved results since November.
Van Gaal also said on Friday that Darren Fletcher is at West Ham ahead of a potential move to the English Premier League side. The Scotland midfielder, who is United's vice-captain, has struggled for first-team opportunities this season.
Carrick has shored up United's midfield since returning from a long-term injury during the 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Nov. 2.
United have lost only once in 14 games since then.
The 20-time English champions are in fourth place in the Premier League, and play Leicester at home on Saturday.
