Manchester: Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia will be out of action for up to four weeks after he limped off the pitch in the 2-0 win at Ajax, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed.
Valencia had been on the pitch for less than half an hour and had made a telling difference, providing some incisive runs in the final third for United, but after starting the play that created their second goal, he left the pitch with a hamstring strain.
The winger picked up play in the centre of midfielder before surging forward, flicking a pass through to Javier Hernandez, but while stretching was caught by Jan Vertonghen and subsequently taken off at the next break in play, which happened to be the Mexican's goal.
Speaking to reporters after the match, a disappointed Ferguson said: "He has a hamstring injury unfortunately. It will be four weeks."
The injury comes as a big blow for both United and Valencia with the Ecuador international finally finding some form recently, earning rave reviews for his performances on the right wing while Nani remained injured.
Valencia could miss up to four matches with the visits of Ajax, and West Brom, and trips to Tottenham and Norwich all on the horizon.
