Man Utd interested in Modric: report
United have made Modric their top transfer target for the summer.

Manchester: Manchester United are believed to be interested in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric as a solution to their midfield problems.

The Red Devils have been grateful to have Paul Scholes back out of retirement, with Tom Cleverley sidelined due to an ankle injury and Darren Fletcher ruled out for the rest of the season through illness.

Meanwhile, the Spurs midfielder has been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane and was believed to have been close to Chelsea last summer. But that transfer failed to reach fruition as the north London club dug their heels in and insisted that the Croatian should stay and fulfil his contractual obligations.

But now The Mail on Sunday reports that United have made Modric their top transfer target for the summer, viewing him as a long-term replacement for Scholes.

It is thought that Spurs would require a 50 million pounds bid from the Red Devils to persuade them to part with their prized asset.

Modric currently has a contract with Tottenham until 2016, and is expected to play in the blockbuster clash against Manchester City at Eastlands on Sunday.
