Madrid: Real Madrid are close to completing the transfer of full-back Fabio Coentrao from Benfica for an undisclosed fee after having agreed terms, A Bola reports.
Coentrao has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the Copa del Rey winners and an official statement is expected to be released after the final details of the move have been ironed out.
On Monday, the 23-year-old defender decided to skip Benfica's pre-season training camp in Switzerland and he travelled to Madrid shortly after to negotiate a deal with Real. Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, followed suit later on Monday and negotiations between both clubs intensified in the past few hours.
It's not yet known how much Real Madrid will pay for the services of Coentrao. Argentinian centre-back Ezequiel Garay will move to Benfica as part of the deal.
Real Madrid were reluctant to meet Benfica's 30 million euros valuation of Coentrao, but the Portuguese side refused to drop their asking price. However, the inclusion of the 24-year-old Garay eventually prompted Benfica to lower their demands.
