Milan: Inter Milan have announced that Gian Piero Gasperini will be their new coach as the 53-year-old has signed a two-year deal, the club said via a statement on Friday.
After plenty of speculation surrounding who would come in, a note on the club's official website reads: "Gian Piero Gasperini is the new Inter coach. The official announcement will arrive once all the bureaucratic formalities are completed. Once this happens, the date of his unveiling to the press will be revealed.
"Gasperini, 53, will sign a two-year-contract and he will work alongside the club's staff and with two new assistants, Bruno Caneo, and athletic coach Luca Trucchi."
Club president Massimo Moratti, who had previously said a new tactician would be unveiled by the end of the week, expressed his pleasure at closing the deal.
He confirmed his "full satisfaction with the choice," and wished Gasperini "the success which led Inter to become world champions."
Leonardo, who took over from Rafael Benitez in December, led Inter to the Coppa Italia and a second-place finish last term.
He will move onto Paris Saint-Germain where a director's role awaits him.
Gasperini returns to coaching for the first time since November when he was sacked by Genoa. He won promotion with his former club in 2007 as he guided them back to Serie A.
