London: Manchester United have reportedly made Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale their top transfer target for the summer.
The young Welshman has had a very impressive season so far, putting in strong performances at domestic and European levels - his Champions League tally currently reads fours goals and two assists in six-games.
With age on his side, the 21-year-old has been linked with moves away from Spurs during the summer, with other top European giants believed to be interested in acquiring his services.
Now The Mirror claims that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has put the former Southampton player at the top of his summer wishlist.
It has been suggested that the Old Trafford outfit may have to cough up over £40 million to get the Wales international, despite the north London club having so far remained resolute in holding on to their prised asset.
It has also been reported that Ferguson may use Michael Carrick as a makeweight to ensure that the potential deal reaches fruition.
