London: Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is keeping tabs on Bolton defender Gary Cahill, labelling the England international an "interesting player."
The 26-year-old's current contract is due to expire in the summer, and with Bolton struggling in Premier League, speculation has been rife that the defender could be set for a departure from the Reebok Stadium.
Cahill was impressive in his side’s important 2-1 victory over Blackburn on Tuesday night at Ewood Park, and the Chelsea boss has since admitted his interest in the player.
"We are aware of Gary's contractual situation," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News. "He's an interesting player for the club."
Brazilian defender Alex is expected to move in the New Year after submitting a transfer request, and the 34-year-old manager will be looking to fill the void in central defence.
"You know that we have taken a decision this season regarding the central defenders, regarding Alex."
"We haven't decided yet what we are going to do with the Alex situation. We have to make the wisest decision, be it Alex, be it Cahill."
