Munich: Franck Ribery will miss Bayern Munich's opening Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday because of a recurrence of his knee problem.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola says the Frenchman, who scored in his comeback against Stuttgart on Saturday, will definitely not play, but Arjen Robben could make an appearance.

Ribery pulled out of training on Monday after making his only appearance of the season two days earlier.

Robben had been laboring with a knee problem but Guardiola says "he's trained really well over the past few days."

Midfielders Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara are all out with knee injuries, while Holger Badstuber tore a tendon in his left thigh against Stuttgart.

Bayern are playing City for the third time in four seasons.
