Exclusive | 'Song Joong Ki Was Always Surprised By My...': Anupam Tripathi Spills Beans on Korean Superstar
Anupam Tripathi worked with Song Joong Ki in two South Korean shows and a South Korean film -- Descendants of the Sun, Arthadal Chronicles and Space Sweepers.

Anupam Tripathi is all set to make his Indian film industry debut with Netflix’s IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. However, the actor has already worked with some of the biggest names in the South Korean film industry. One of which is Song Joong-ki. One of the highest-paid actors in the South Korean entertainment industry, Song Joong Ki shared the screen with Anupam in three projects — Descendants of the Sun (DotS), Arthadal Chronicles and Space Sweepers. Although Anupam briefly shared the screen with Song Joong Ki in DotS, he had sizable roles in the other two projects, giving them time to bond. Speaking with News18 Showsha exclusively, Anupam shared his thoughts on the South Korean superstar.

Recalling working with Song Joong Ki in Arthadal Chronicles, Anupam said, “On the sets, he was always surprised by my Korean. He would always say, ‘You speak so good Korean.'” The actor, who shot to fame after the massive success of Squid Game, added that Song Joong-ki doesn’t have the air of a superstar on the sets. “With him on set, you don’t feel like you are with a superstar. He’s very humble and very kind,” Anupam told us.

Another South Korean superstar that Anupam couldn’t stop praising was Kim Seon Ho. The actor said the Queen of Tears star has always been friendly with him whenever they would cross paths at premieres and events. “Whenever we’ve met, at premieres and events, we gel well. He’s a very joyful and friendly person,” Anupam said while speaking with us.

While Anupam is already a popular name among K-drama lovers across the globe, fans are eager to see him in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. Set to release on Netflix this month, the series is based on the harrowing events that played out during the hijack of the IC 814 aircraft that took off from Katmandu and was headed to New Delhi. The flight was hijacked and passengers were under the custody of the hijackers for seven days. The flight travelled through multiple airbases before it was stationed in Kandahar and Indian officials performed the negotiation. Anupam plays a vital role in the series.

Shedding light on his character and the prep for IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Anupam told us, “I wanted to do this kind of character, this dual personality of what you see is not what really is.”

Tripathi added that he did not have to go above and beyond with his research of the character and events because the script and the makers had done everything for him. “It was a well-researched script, I didn’t have to go look for references. Our director, Anubhav Sinha, was there to guide us through it all. He’s a fun and dilkush man. The first time I met him, he said, ‘Welcome.’ And immediately after, he said, ‘Khanna khaya?’ He is such a nice person,” he said as he also credited hairstylists and the costumes department for helping bringing this character to life.
