A native of Patna, Bihar, Aryaka Akhoury is an IAS officer of the 2013 batch. Following the funeral of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who died of cardiac arrest recently, a video of Akhoury went viral on social media. She was seen engaging in a heated conversation with Ansari’s brother MP Afzal Ansari. Akhoury is currently the District Magistrate (DM), in Ghazipur.
Aryaka Akhoury: Educational Qualification
Akhoury had completed her postgraduation with an MSc in Biotech. After completing her master’s degree, she joined the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) on September 2, 2013. Thereafter, she shifted to Mussoorie for IAS training. She got her first posting as the Joint Magistrate in Varanasi.
She was appointed the Chief Development Officer in the Meerut district later. Akhoury has also been a Special Secretary in the Secondary Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. She got her first posting as Collector in Bhadohi district on February 11, 2022.
As a DM in Bhadohi district, Akhoury had adopted a firm stance regarding law and order. She cancelled firearms licences of miscreants and imposed the Gangster Act against former MLA Vijay Mishra. She had also imposed a ban on wearing jeans-tops and T-shirts in government offices.
During the Mukhtar Ansari funeral, Akhoury and other administrative officials handled the arrangements at the graveyard and managed the entry of the people at the burial site. She stood against the MP, stating that no prior permission was sought to carry out the ritual. However, the MP responded to her remark and commented that no prohibitory orders would be able to stop people from participating in the last rites. To this, Akhoury said that, “As Section 144 is in place, I cannot allow the entire town to participate in the ritual. Only the family members can perform the ritual.”
