Allahabad HC Permits NTA to Act Against NEET Aspirant for Forged Documents, Dismisses 'Torn OMR' Plea
The court said that the petitioner has submitted forged documents, and in such a situation this court cannot stop NTA from taking legal action against the student

The Allahabad High Court rejected a plea filed by NEET aspirant Ayushi Patel due to contradictions in her statements involving a damaged OMR answer sheet on Tuesday. According to PTI, Patel claimed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) failed to release her results owing to a ripped OMR sheet. Ayushi Pate also claimed a score of 715 marks based on the answer key released by NTA, nevertheless received a result with a different application number that showed just 335 marks.

The assertions were made in a social media video that went viral during a heated debate over the possible irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024.

In a viral video, Patel said that when she attempted to verify her results, an error notice read, “Your results have not been generated.” She further stated that she received an email from the NTA informing her that her result had not been issued due to damaged optical mark recognition (OMR) sheet. In response to her claims, the NTA clarified that no such email was sent to any students.

Following the announcement of the NEET-UG result 2024 on June 4, Patel filed a petition requesting a manual examination of her OMR sheet, an investigation of the NTA, and a stay on the medical admission counselling.

On June 12, a vacation bench led by Justice Rajesh Singh requested the NTA to present the student’s original records, as reported by PTI. NTA Deputy Director Sandeep Sharma produced the student’s original documents and an affidavit in compliance with the judgement.

However, the original OMR sheet revealed no damage. The court rejected the petition, citing “forged documents,” and stated that the NTA is free to pursue legal action.

“The petitioner has submitted forged documents, and in such a situation this court cannot stop NTA from taking legal action against the student,” the ruling stated.

The NTA informed the court of their intention to take legal action against Patel. Further, Patel’s advocate urged that the petition be withdrawn, which the court granted.
