In the dramatic series finale between India vs Afghanistan where the match went down to a double Super-Over, Rohit Sharma’s men managed to come out on top against a resilient Afghanistan side. However, after the match, the skipper mentioned that there are certain players who are pretty much guaranteed to feature in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
In a post-match interview with JioCinema, the skipper mentioned that while the squad for the tournament is not yet finalised, he highlighted the fact that certain players have to be left out of the squad. He said, “Like when we were playing the ODI World Cup, we tried out many boys in T20s. They perform but when the main squad is announced, some boys have to be left out. So, it is disappointing for them. But our job is to bring clarity to the team.”

The skipper also added that there are certain players who will definitely get the ticket to feature in the marquee tournament. “So, in the pool of 25-30 players we have, they know what is expected of each player. We have still not finalised the squad for the T20 World Cup, but obviously, in the mind you know the 8-10 players who are going to play.”
Rohit also talked about the conditions in the Caribbean which he described as slow, which means it would require that the squad be picked to perform in those conditions. He said, “In the West Indies, the conditions are quite slow, so we have to pick the squad accordingly. Again I say, that Rahul bhai and I have tried to maintain clarity in the team. The one thing I have learnt from captaincy is that you can’t keep everyone happy. You have to focus on the needs of the team.”

The Indian skipper who was under pressure after having consecutive ducks in the first two T20I’s managed to finally get off the mark and go big with his fifth T20I century. He was also part of both the Super-Overs where he managed to score the bulk of the runs to help India secure the win.
During his innings, Rohit also managed to add in some unorthodox shots as well which include the reverse-sweep, lap shots etc which is not common to see when he is batting. He spoke regarding the same where he said,” I have been practising reverse sweeps and sweeps for the past two years. You would have seen me play them once or twice in Test matches. You have the options and it’s up to you how you are using those options.”
Rohit Sharma’s next assignment as the skipper is against England in the five-match Test series against England where he will be looking to get the series victory taking into account the home-advantage.
