The first T20I of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka is set to take place at Pallekele International Stadium on Saturday (July 27). In the series opener, star Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal will have a chance to become the first batter in the world to score 1000 runs in international cricket in 2024.
The 22-year-old left-handed batter, who made his debut for India last year, has 953 runs to his name in 16 innings of 11 matches played so far this year.
He scored 740 runs in six Tests and amassed a total of 213 runs in five T20Is. The Mumbai-based cricketer was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 title in the West Indies and USA last month, but he didn’t get a chance to play in any of the eight matches.
