'Will do Everything in my Power to Make Billion Dreams Come True', Vows New Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir was touted to replace the Wall at the helm of the team and the decision to name the aggressive southpaw, with a track record of clinching titles, was announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the new head coach of the Indian Cricket Team on Tuesday, following the departure of former coach Rahul Dravid, after his T20WC-winning exploits in the Caribbean.

Gambhir was touted to replace the Wall at the helm of the team and the decision to name the aggressive southpaw, with a track record of clinching titles, was announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Gambhir took to his Instagram handle to post and update that read, “India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!”

Gambhir also thanked Shah for his words of encouragement that accompanied the news of the southpaw’s appointment at the helm.

Gambhir’s previous assignment was as the mentor of IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders, where he helped end a title drought of a decade and deliver the coveted piece of silverware to the Kolkata-based unit.

Gambhir was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning Indian side and starred in the championship clash against Sri Lanka at the fabled Wankhede to bring the glittery trophy back to India with a match-saving innings.

Known for his aggression and attitude, the maverick southpaw is expected to play a huge role in shaping the future of the Indian team with an array of young players making it to the ranks of the national side, while many others knock on the doors of the selectors for a call up to don the famous blue jersey.
