'Will be Kicking Himself for That': Rohan Gavaskar on Jitesh Sharma's Over-Aggressive Approach vs Afghanistan in 2nd T20I
'Will be Kicking Himself for That': Rohan Gavaskar on Jitesh Sharma's Over-Aggressive Approach vs Afghanistan in 2nd T20I
Former Indian cricketer, Rohan Gavaskar believes that Jitesh Sharma could regret his poor batting approach in the second T20I against Afghanistan and even hinted that India could try Sanju Samson for the final T20I fixture.

Former Indian cricketer, Rohan Gavaskar believes that the wicketkeeper-batter, Jitesh Sharma would be regretting his cheap dismissal in the second T20I vs Afghanistan. India managed to put on a dominant batting display to chase down the target with ease thanks to the brilliance of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, both of whom scored fifties as India sealed the series 2-0.

After Jaiswal was dismissed for 68, Jitesh Sharma came into the middle where he was dismissed for a duck looking to go aggressive from the start. Karim Janat managed to get his second wicket in the game when he bowled a short of a length delivery which the batter looked to pounce on but found the fielder who was at the mid-off area for a catch.

Speaking tp Cricbuzz on Jitesh Sharma’s poor showing, Gavaskar pointed out the sensible approach taken by Rinku Singh who maintained his composure during the start of his innings by rotating the strike. He said,” Jitesh Sharma will look at what Rinku Singh has done and will be thinking in the dressing room, ‘I wish I had done that.’. He’d wish he had gone a run-a-ball, not try to be too aggressive, because Shivam Dube was batting fabulously like a dream. He was going to win you the game; there was no danger of us losing the game.”

The former Indian batter believes that Jitesh would regret his poor approach, he added, “So what Jitesh will be looking and kicking himself thinking is, ‘I should have done a sensible thing here and taken a single.”

The Kerala captain, Sanju Samson has been on the bench for the first two T20I’s and with the series secured, India could consider giving the wicketkeeper-batter a go in place of Jitesh. Gavaskar suggested,” Maybe Sanju Samson comes in. He has not got a game yet. He has not played in a T20I since Ireland. So, it is been a while. Maybe you give him a game to see how he goes. But I think you might see Shivam Dube being rested.”

India will play their final T20I against Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where the hosts will look to secure another win and whitewash Afghanistan. This will also be the final T20I for India ahead of the World Cup as well which is held in the West Indies and the United States of America. However, the IPL will also take place where the selectors will be keeping an eye on the players to decide on the squad that will travel for the marquee tournament in the shortest format.
