'Who Cares if you Chant Jai Shree Ram or Allahu Akbar 1000 times': Mohammed Shami
Answering a question on minorities being targeted in India at News18 India Chaupal, Mohammed Shami reacted with a bold statement.

Mohammed Shami had been part of News18 India’s event ‘Chaupal’ where the Indian pacer had responded to a question regarding the targetting of religious minories in India.

During the event, Shami made a bold comment when he said, “In every religion, you will find 5-10 people that don’t like someone. I have no objection to that. Even when it comes to the ‘Sajdah’ issue, if your temple is being made then who cares if you chant Jai Shree Ram 1000 times? If I want to say Allahu Akbar then I will also say it 1000 times, how does it matter?"

Mohammad Shami is currently out of action after picking up a heel injury after his stellar performance in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. The pacer is yet to feature for India and missed out on the tour to South Africa and the ongoing Test series vs England.

The Indian pacer was under fire earlier during the World Cup where he had gone down on his knees which prompted fans to allege that Shami was looking to perform a ‘Sajdah’ after picking the wicket. Shami had denied these allegations and explained that he had moved a bit forward as someone had pushed him.

India is currently missing the services of Mohammed Shami who has been a good performer for India at home as Jasprit Bumrah is now being burdened by doing the heavy lifting for the Indian team in batting-friendly conditions.

Having opted for two pacers across the first two Tests, the second pacer where Siraj played the first Test and Mukesh played the second has proven to be the weak link of the Indian side. India however were able to get the win thanks to a masterful performance by Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test where he picked up nine wickets at Visakapatnam.

Being a threat with the ball reverse-swinging, India will certainly miss Mohammed Shami. However, the pacer is eyeing his return in the upcoming IPL  where he will look to showcase his class and ensure that his name is selected for India’s squad which will travel for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
