Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh ransacked 103 runs in the last 5 overs of the Indian innings during the 3rd T20I vs Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday en route helping India post 212/4, a remarkable recovery from 22/4 in 4.3 overs. The duo put on a record stand of 190 runs in just 95 balls, the highest partnership for India for any wicket in a T20I. Rohit achieved a huge personal milestone hitting his 5th T20I century, to become the player with the most T20I centuries, while Rinku Singh accelerated in the most brutal fashion notching up his second T20I fifty, finishing on 69 not out off just 39 deliveries with the help of six sixes and two fours. Sharma fell runs short of registering the highest individual score for India in T20Is, ending with 121 not out off just 69 deliveries with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes.

The duo also notched up another impressive record, hitting 36 runs in the final over – only the third instance in T20Is that 36 runs were scored in an over and what was remarkable was the fact that it was the first such instance without six sixes being hit in the over.
Yuvraj Singh was the first player to hit six sixes in an over against Stuart Broadway back in 2007 against England in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. The feat was then emulated by T20 giant Keron Pollard 14 years later in 2021 when he smashed six sixes off a single over from Sri Lanka’s Akila Dhananjaya.
Rohit Sharma Hits Record-breaking 5th T20I Century
Rohit and Rinku then combined to hit 36 runs in an over tonight which included 5 sixes, one of which came off a no-ball, a four and a single. Here’s how the mayhem panned out:

19.1 – Karim Janat to Rohit Sharma, 4 runs
FOUR! Cheeky and just too good from Rohit Sharma. Full and wide but it is a low full toss, Sharma just walks past the stumps and laps it past square leg for a boundary.
19.2 – Karim Janat to Rohit Sharma, 7 runs
NO BALL AND SIX! The ball has smashed into the roof and has taken a real pounding that ball. Another juicy full toss outside off, Rohit Sharma stays deep in the crease and whacks it away right off the meat of the bat over the long on fence and into the roof of the stadium for a mammoth blow. What is worse for Afghanistan is that Karim Janat has overstepped and it will be a Free Hit to follow.

Gets the wide yorker in this time, Rohit Sharma opens the face of the bat and guides it straight to short third for a single.
19.4 – Karim Janat to Rinku Singh, 6 runs
SIX! And out of nowhere, the 200 is up for India! This has been some partnership and some hitting from these two. Serves it full on the pads, Rinku Singh flicks it off the legs and gets it over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum.
19.5 – Karim Janat to Rinku Singh, 6 runs
SIX MORE! 30 off the over with a ball to go. Karim Janat with yet another juicy full toss and Rinku Singh just slogs it away as the ball flies over the mid-wicket fence for a fourth maximum in the over.
19.6 – Karim Janat to Rinku Singh, 6 runs
SIX! Make that five maximums and 36 runs off the over! What an epic finish from India and Afghanistan have been left red-faced here. Karim Janat changes the angle by coming in from around the stumps digs it in a bit short and angling into the hitting arc. Rinku Singh stays put and just swivels on it a bit before pulling it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. India finished with a mammoth total of 212/4 on the board!
