India-born BBL star Nikhil Chaudhary was left impressed by Brett Lee’s Hindi accent during a match between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday. The former speedster unquestionably has a slew of talent, even if we keep aside his illustrious cricket career. Fans especially know the fast-bowling maestro for spitting fire at the crease with sheer pace. But when have a guitar in his hand, Lee can anytime unleash his entertaining persona. The Aussie legend has already made his debut in the film industry, featuring in a cameo role in several movies.
Having travelled across different parts of the world, Lee has gathered a lot of experience. He has played so many matches in India during his career days, which helped him get acquainted with the Indian culture. Following his retirement, Lee kicked off his career in commentary and has covered a few editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. That’s why speaking Hindi is certainly not a big deal for the Australian.

When the BBL match was underway in Melbourne, Brett Lee tried to interact with Nikhil Chaudhary, who was fielding at the boundary line. The cricketer-turned-commentator asked the questions in Hindi, which no doubt came as a shock for Nikhil. The Hobart all-rounder reacted in the best way possible, responding in his mother tongue. At the end of the conversation, Nikhil made sure to acknowledge that Lee’s “Hindi is too good.”
A video of the interaction was dropped on the official Instagram account of the Big Bash League (BBL). The caption of the post underlined Nikhil’s reaction after Brett Lee spoke fluent Hindi. Fans no doubt loved the conversation as one of the viewers commented, “It’s a long time since we last heard Hindi from Brett Lee.” One fan was quick to say, “Lee, you are 100% Indian.”
Hailing from New Delhi, Nikhil Chaudhary is only the second Indian-origin cricketer to feature at the Australian Big Bash League (BBL), following U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand. A talented all-rounder, Nikhil can singlehandedly change the course of the game with his aggressive batting, while his ability to bowl with the new ball adds some extra strength to the bowling department as well.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the 27-year-old kickstarted his career in Australia, joining the Northern Suburbs cricket club.
