Before announcing the award, the fielding coach praised other team members who were present in the match for their efforts as well. He said,” When we show our athleticism on the field, with awareness, we can make a lot of difference and today was a great example of that. Started with Washi, Sanju… outstanding effort.”

Sridhar also credited people who were sitting out as well for their contributions. He added,” Before the start of the series, we spoke on certain ‘one per cent’ factors like not about the brilliant catches we take or the runs we save, but reading the game, chasing in pairs and backing up. Taking the ownership going into hotspots, there were a lot of things visible in this tournament. I give credit to each and everyone, not only the people who have played but also people who have been sitting outside.”

India’s Rinku Singh was nominated for the award, “Rinku, your athleticism has been outstanding, the way you’ve done,” said R Sridhar on his outstanding efforts in the series against Afghanistan.
Sridhar finally announced the winner, “This guy has shown time and again, split-second decision-making, whether to go for it or not. The way he keeps on coming at you, you can’t take your eyes off, none other than Virat Kohli.”
While Virat Kohli might not have had the best time with the bat having been dismissed for a golden duck, Kohli made his presence felt in the field having saved some crucial runs from the boundary ropes and taking catches as well.
Kohli will now be part of India’s Test squad which will go up against England in the five-match Test series at home followed by the IPL. Fans will be hoping to see the King himself in the blue jersey once again as India will travel to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup as well.
