'Virat Kohli is Getting His Average Higher But he is Not Focusing on That Because...': Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan talked about his batting philosophy and said he always put his team in front of him rather than individual milestones.

Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan opened up on his batting approach as he gave reference to India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli while explaining his philosophy. Rizwan has been performing consistently well for Pakistan across formats in the past few years. The star player bats in the middle-order in ODIs and Tests, while he is Pakistan’s designated opener in the shortest format.

Rizwan talked about his batting philosophy and said he always put his team in front of him rather than individual milestones.

“Firstly, the teams that you are representing… keep that [role] in front and if you think of yourself in that case… like players who think, ‘let me save myself’, he won’t go far,” Rizwan told Cricbuzz.

The Pakistan star player drew reference to Kohli who is a consistent performer for India and said his focus is not on increasing his average.

“Those players who look at averages are average players. If someone is performing, it will be there in the stats for people to see. Like, say India’s Virat Kohli, he is getting his average higher but he is not focusing on that because average players looks at average and big players will look at the team and the situation,” Rizwan elaborated.

Kohli has a 50-plus batting average in ODIs and T20Is while in Tests also he is very close to the mark – 49.16.

The 31-year-old Pakistan wicketkeeper suggested that he follows the same philosophy in life too.

“My focus remains on what is the requirement of the team. The team says, ‘Rizwan, look at the board and play accordingly’. I maintain the same thing in my own life, too, but it is not easy,” he added.

He further talked about the difference in batting in the T20 and ODIs and how it is the mind game for any batter.

In T20, playing the new ball and in ODI, go after 25 overs when the ball is a bit old…. that is not easy and it is a mind game,” Rizwan said.
