'Nothing Worthwhile Is Easy': Usman Khawaja Shares a Bold Message On Social Media
Australian opening batter Usman Khawaja has now once again reached out to fans with another heartfelt note on Instagram.

Australia opening batter Usman Khawaja last week pledged to fight an International Cricket Council (ICC) decision that did not allow him to showcase human rights messages on his shoes. Khawaja was spotted sporting cricket boots with the messages “All lives are equal” and “Freedom is a human right” written on them during Australia’s training session ahead of the opening Test against Pakistan.

He abided by the ICC laws and didn’t wear those shoes on matchday but had said that he would fight and get approval from the governing council. Instead, the 37-year-old decided to wear a black armband and taped over the writings on his footwear during the first Test against Pakistan at the Perth Stadium.

The southpaw has now once again reached out to fans with another heartfelt note on Instagram.

“Thank you to all those who supported and gave me love this week. It wasn’t unnoticed. There are a lot of kind-hearted people out there. Nothing worthwhile is easy. History shows we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of our past. But together we can fight for a better future,” Khawaja wrote.

Along with his emotional message, Usman Khawaja shared a couple of photos as well. One picture showed a pair of shoes with “all lives are equal” and “freedom is a human right” written on them.

Previously, sharing a video on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Usman Khawaja had said, “The ICC have told me that I can’t wear my shoes on the field, because they believe it’s a political statement under their guidelines. I don’t believe it is. I will respect their view and decision but I will fight it and seek to gain approval.”

Usman Khawaja had shared the video on X with a message that read, “All Lives are Equal. Freedom is a Human right. I’m raising my voice for human rights. For a humanitarian appeal. If you see it any other way. That’s on you.”

Usman Khawaja came up with a valiant knock of 90 in the second innings. Chasing a total of 450, the Pakistan cricket team folded for 89. The second Test of the series is scheduled to start on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
