The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to enter its ninth season. It is an annual franchise competition organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board, with six teams featuring in each edition. These teams will take on each other twice during the group stage, which will be followed by three knock-out games– two qualifiers, one eliminator and the final.
The inaugural match of the new PSL season will see reigning champions Lahore Qalandars square off against two-time winners Islamabad United. The high-voltage clash will be hosted at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 17. Lahore Qalandars triumphed over Multan Sultans in the last PSL final, securing a narrow one-win victory. They also became the champions of the 2022 edition.
Led by star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, Lahore Qalandars will look to replicate the feat this year to clinch their third consecutive PSL time. They have built a strong unit featuring the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Shai Hope Abdullah Shafique and Dan Lawrence. Meanwhile, Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan is the captain of Islamabad United. Their team also has some big names like Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Tom Curran and Imad Wasim.
