Jasprit Bumrah Wanted to Emigrate to Canada? MI Pacer Reveals Startling Story Behind His 'Failed' Plan
In conversation with his wife Sanjana Ganesan for JioCinema, Bumrah opened up about how his back-up plan was to move to Canada, and settle there, and hopefully make the cut for the national side, if he couldn't make it here in India.

‘Boom Boom’ Bumrah has risen up the ranks over the past decade and has cemented his status as one of the best bowlers in cricket currently.

His dominance across all formats is undeniable. But, did you know that he almost could have played for Canada and not India? Well, Bumrah shared his story about the same in a recent interview.

In conversation with his wife Sanjana Ganesan for JioCinema, Bumrah opened up about how his back-up plan was to move to Canada, and settle there, and hopefully make the cut for the national side, if he couldn’t make it here in India.

“Every boy dreams of making it big and tries to be a cricketer. You go to any street and there will be five players who want to play for India, so you need to have a backup plan. My relative lives there (Canada) so we thought that I would finish my education here and then move,” Bumrah said.

“At first we had decided to travel as a family, but my mum had become a school principal, so she didn’t want to go because it is a different place to be in, different cultures. So I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out for me, otherwise I would’ve tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there,” Bumrah added.

How funny is it to imagine that the MI and India’s strike bowler thought he couldn’t make the cut?

In fact, it was just in February of this year when Jasprit Bumrah pipped ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to become the ICC number one-ranked bowler in Test cricket. Bumrah scripted history and became the first Indian pacer to achieve the numero uno spot in the Test bowling charts.

This season in the IPL as well, Bumrah has been an anchor for the side that has struggled so far, claiming five wickets in four matches, and putting on a clinic against Delhi Capitals for MI’s first win of the season.
