Anrich Nortje recently recorded the best bowling figures for South Africa in T20 World Cup history.

South African pacer Anrich Arno Nortje was spotted exploring the streets of New York after a blockbuster star to his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Nortje shone brightly during the Proteas tournament opener against Sri Lanka on June 3. Putting up figures of 4/7 against the 2014 winners, Nortje decided to celebrate the feat by exploring the host city. The official Instagram handle of ICC shared a glimpse of the South African pacer’s adventures in Times Square. In the video, Anrich Nortje can be seen rolling with a white cap, a charcoal round-neck t-shirt and a pair of cream-coloured shots. The cricketer was seen in a new ‘avatar’ as he channelled his inner photographer to click some snaps on the New York streets.

The official ICC account tagged Anrich Nortje to the post while highlighting how sublimely the cricketer switched between two different professions during his time in the United States. The Council wrote, “4/7 at the T20 World Cup one day, tourist photographer at Times Square in New York the next. Just Anrich Nortje things”.

Fans have now reacted to Anrich Nortje’s adventures in the comments section. One of them wrote, “Hahaha such a nice guy”.

Another was shocked to see the famous sports athlete walk the streets without being bothered by the surrounding strangers. “Do those strangers know who is he?” asked a fan.

One expressed his love toward Nortje’s team by saying, “I love South Africa”.

Others poured down love and heart emojis in the comments.

Anrich Nortje’s heroics saw South Africa beat Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Sri Lanka’s decision to bowl first didn’t quite work in their favour as the 2014 winners lost Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka and Angelo Mathews to the South African pacer early. Nortje’s impressive haul also saw him record the best bowling figures for the Proteas in T20 World Cup history. This led to the Asian side finishing their innings at a mere total of 77 runs. In the second innings, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller played unbeaten knocks of 19 and 6, respectively, to seal a comfortable win.

Speaking after the game, Anrich Nortje had a few words to share about his record-breaking performance in the United States. This is what he said as per several media outlets – “I thought the game was great. I thought the entertainment was there. I thought the people were there. It was a brilliant spectacle. It was brilliant to see everyone, to hear the voices, the noise, the cheering. I thought it was a great day for cricket. It doesn’t always mean, correct me if I’m wrong, there needs to be 20 sixes in a game to make it entertaining.”

Anrich Nortje is next set to feature in South Africa’s second game of the tournament against the Netherlands. The upcoming fixture will also take place in New York this Saturday, June 8.
