IND vs ENG: Dhruv Jurel, Son of Kargil War Veteran, Celebrates Maiden Test Fifty With a Salute
Dhruv Jurel's father is a retired Havildar who fought in the Kargil war in 1999 before taking voluntary retirement from service in 2008.

Dhruv Jurel scored his maiden fifty in Test cricket as cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar compared the youngster to Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

On commentary, during day three of the fourth Test of the five-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, Gavaskar said Jurel is another MS Dhoni in the making.

“Of course he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer,” Gavaskar said on commentary.

Dhruv Jurel gave a mighty push to get to his maiden Test hundred but was dismissed for 90 as IKndai were bowled out for 307 in their first innings, trailing England by 46 runs.

Earlier, Dhruv Jurel, on 30, and Kuldeep Yadav, on 17, closed out the second day with an unbeaten stand of 42 but India still trail the visitors by 134 runs.

Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav (28) kept England at bay for the large part of the first session on the third day after doing so on the final session of the second day evening.

For the eighth wicket, Jurel and Kuldeep put on 76 vital runs while consuming 202 deliveries to settle the Indian nerves, after the hosts had lost a chunk of their batting line-up without any significant contributions on day 2.

Once Jurel realised he was running out of partners, the Indian batter counter-attacked. The right-hand batter smashed four sixes and six fours in his knock but fell short of a hundred when Tom Hartley (3-68) bowled him.

India are 2-1 ahead in the five-match series.
