'In India, You've to Learn How to Bowl Reverse Swing': Jasprit Bumrah After Brilliant Six-fer Against England
Jasprit Bumrah asserted that a pacer has to be patient with the reverse swing and use it wisely to set up the batter.

Paceman Jasprit Bumrah opened up on the importance of using reverse swing in India as he claimed a six-wicket haul against England on Day 2 of the second Test. Bumrah ran riot with the ball and picked a six-wicket haul on a flat track of Visakhapatnam.

Bumrah produced a brilliant spell to rip through England’s star-studded middle-order. Joe Root (5), Ollie Pope (23), Jonny Bairstow (25) and England skipper Ben Stokes (47) were victims of his brilliance.

Bumrah, who is the leader of India’s pace attack, said that it is important to use reverse swing to your advantage in Indian conditions.

“You always enjoy when you get rewards. In India, reverse swing plays a big role. Born in this country, you know how to use it to your advantage. In India, you have to learn how to bowl reverse,” Bumrah said after the match.

The 30-year-old got Joe Root caught at slip for five with his reverse swing and then brought the house down. He set up the former England skipper by putting doubts in his mind as he was playing it for an inswinger but the ball moved away from him and took an edge off his willow.

Bumrah asserted that a pacer has to be patient with the reverse swing and use it wisely to set up the batter.

“I’ve grown up watching reverse swing set-ups, legendary bowlers bowling magical deliveries. To be able to do it now, very happy with that. When you bowl reverse, people try to bowl magical deliveries every other ball. You have to be patient with that. Have to set the batters up. Have to use deliveries wisely. Can’t just bowl inswing outswing, inswing outswing,” he added.

Meanwhile, he produced another delivery which rocked the England team – a toe-crushing yorker to rattle Pope’s stumps.

“After that Pope delivery, I had in mind they’ll be looking out for the inswinger. Was keeping an eye on what the batters were looking to do,” he added.

Bumrah also completed 150 Test wickets and become the fastest Indian pacer to achieve the feat, however he said he avoid following the milestones as it build added pressure on him.

“Very happy. Try and avoid looking at numbers. When you do that, you build pressure and don’t enjoy yourself,” he concluded.
