Out-of-favour India batter Hanuma Vihari expressed his disappointment with the Test team’s snub and said that his focus is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy. Vihari last played for India way back in 2022 against England in the postponed Test match at Edgbaston since then he has been dropped from the side.
Vihari has played 16 Test matches for India in which he scored 839 runs at an average of 33.56. However, he didn’t get consistent chances for India in the side. He was also dropped from the central contract list of players released by the BCCI last year.
The Andhra batter recently relinquished his domestic team’s captaincy in the Ranji Trophy to focus on his batting.
“I do feel sad and disappointed that I am not in the Test team, but everyone goes through ups and downs, and my job now is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy. The season has gone all right, both for the team and for me. So the ambition is to score a lot of runs and try to return to the Test team,” Vihari told ESPNcricinfo after Andhra beat Bihar.
The 30-year-old also said that he has had no communication with anyone from Team India since he was dropped.
“No one has spoken to me recently, but Rahul Dravid did speak to me after my last Test, and he told me what I can improve on, but no, I haven’t been in touch with anyone since then,” Vihari said.
The domestic stalwart said that his main purpose is to improve his game and help his team win.
“But I only think about improving my game and enjoying it. If I don’t do that, there is no purpose left. When I go into the middle, I just want to do my best for the team and score runs,” he added.
Meanwhile, despite being out of the Test set-up for about 18 months he said he has no expectations.
“I am at a stage [in my career] where I have no expectations. I give my best each time I bat and then whatever happens will happen,” Vihari added.
