As India gear up for the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024, the fast-bowling unit will have to prove its worth in untested American conditions. The men in blue will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5. The warm-up fixture against Bangladesh on Saturday will help the Indian team management asses its resources before getting into the main event.

India’s bowling unit will be led by Jasprit Bumrah who had a brilliant IPL season for the Mumbai Indians. Though the 5-time champions were the first ones to be knocked out of the tournament, the right-arm quick ended the season with 20 wickets in 13 matches. But his bowling partners, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and vice-captain Hardik Pandya, struggled with the ball in the recently concluded tournament.
Siraj picked up 15 wickets in 14 games while Arshdeep and Pandya bagged 19 and 11 scalps, respectively, in as many matches. Their economy rates, over 10, raised quite a few eyebrows. However, former India captain Sourav Ganguly doesn’t see it as a major concern.
Speaking with RevSports, the ex-BCCI chief said the conditions in the World Cup will be different from the IPL which won’t be an issue for the Indian bowlers.
“I am not really worried. Again, you have to take into account the nature of pitches in the IPL, the ground dimensions and the conditions on offer for the fast bowlers. The World Cup will be very different, and the conditions in the West Indies will not be anywhere near the IPL. Our bowlers shouldn’t have an issue in the World Cup is my assumption,” Ganguly was quoted as saying.
‘Confidence is the key in World Cup’
Referring to Kuldeep Yadav’s current form, Ganguly asserted that self-confidence will be the key for India in the showpiece event in the West.
“He [Kuldeep] is bowling very well. And he is confident about himself. That’s the key. I am telling you yet again. Whatever you might feel, India has serious quality and will always have a very good chance in the World Cup. Mark my words,” he added.
