Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan is set to join Surrey, the English County Championship side to play in one match which is against Somerset ahead of Bangladesh’s two-match series against India later this month.
Surrey decided to bring in the all-rounder after they lost eight of their players to England duties as they take on Sri Lanka in the final Test of the three-match affair at the Oval. Surrey Director, Alec Stewart expressed his pleasure in bringing in the experienced campaigner to his side.
“When the opportunity to bring a player of the quality of Shakib to the Club came along it was an easy decision to make. We’ve been aware for a period of time that this fixture was likely to be one where we would have a significant number of players away on England duty and, in particular, missing two of our spinning all-rounders,” Stewart said.
“Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey,” he added.
Following suit, Shakib also expressed his happiness in representing the side albeit only for the singular fixture. He will look to use the game-time to best prepare himself for the upcoming challenge against India where he will be expected to perform on all fronts.

“Surrey are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, and I am pleased to get the chance to represent the club. I’m coming here to have an impact and help the team achieve their goals for the season,” Shakib commented.
While Shakib did not have much of a say with the bat, he certainly did involve himself with the ball as Bangladesh are coming to India on the back of a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi recently.
