India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav was flummoxed after hearing a question by a reporter at the pre-match press conference on Saturday, ahead of the first game against Bangladesh in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
The 34-year-old is now the designated skipper for the national side in the shortest format, but he hasn’t led a team in the Indian Premier League. Yadav was asked a question regarding the mentioned topic which left him stumped.
But the skipper was in a positive mood and took on the question in good stead. He responded by reflecting on his time with Mumbai Indians under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma where he always could share his inputs when needed.
“Aapne googly daal diya aapne (laughs) (You put me in a spot with a wrong ‘un). Really enjoying this new role (as India captain). When I was playing under Rohit bhai’s captaincy in MI, I used to give my input on whatever I felt at that time,” said the number one ranked T20I batter.
On his role as the Indian skipper, he remains positive regarding his leadership skills and believes that he has learned what’s needed from his predecessors in the role.
“For India also feeling good. I captained against Sri Lanka previously against Australia and South Africa. I have learnt from other captains on how to take the team forward,” he added.
The skipper has had a fine start to his leadership role where he led the side to series wins over Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. He will look to maintain the winning momentum as they take on Bangladesh tomorrow as well.
As for captaining in the IPL, he did not have much to say and gave a witty response to the reporter to conclude his response.
“Aage dekhte hain. Chalte rahta hain. Baaki aapko pata toh chal hee jayega ((Let’s see how it goes. Rest you will know in due course of time),” he concluded.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced that Shivam Dube has been replaced by Tilak Varma in the squad for the Bangladesh T20Is as the former has a back injury, thus ruling him out.
