The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 2.25 percent, while the broader Nifty ended 2.35 percent higher after earlier rising as much as 2.7 percent.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex rose more than 2 percent ending the day at ends at 18,401.04, up 404.89 points as blue chip shares including HDFC surged tracking a rebound in the rupee from a record low in the previous session, after the central bank's move to provide dollars directly to oil companies.

Mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC.NS) rose 6.55 percent, while software exporter Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS.NS) ended 2.05 percent higher after earlier making its all-time high at 1,970 rupees.

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 2.25 percent, while the broader Nifty ended 2.35 percent higher after earlier rising as much as 2.7 percent.
