The rupee had bounced back sharply by 63 paise to close at a one-month high of 59.13 a dollar on Wednesday.
Mumbai: The rupee on Thursday fell by 21 paise to 59.34 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to month-end demand for the US currency from importers and banks amid a weak opening in the equity market.
The rupee had bounced back sharply by 63 paise to close at a one-month high of 59.13 a dollar on Wednesday, boosted by RBI's additional measures to curb exchange rate volatility.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was down by 17.44 points, or 0.09 per cent, at 20,073.24 in early trade on Thursday.
