Mkts open weak, Sensex, Nifty in red
At 0957 hrs IST, Sensex was down 143 points at 13422 and broad based Nifty was down 47 points at 3864.

New Delhi: Continuing its downward trend, markets opened weak on Wednesday.

The markets witnessed selling pressure across the board in opening trade in line with its Asian peers.

At 0957 hrs IST, Sensex was down 143 points at 13422 and Nifty was down 47 points at 3864.

Major losers in the opening trade were SBI, Tata Motors, Reliance Communications, Cipla, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Reliance Energy.

Stocks across Asia were mostly lower on Wednesday, Japan's Nikkei plunged 1.69 per cent or 290.88 points at 16,946.891, Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped 1.25 per cent or 248.81 points at 19,649.27, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was down 1.21 per cent or 93.90 points at 7,696.11, South Korea's Seoul Composite fell 1.94 per cent or 26.64 points at 1,347.7. Singapore's Straits Times tumbled 1.22 per cent or 36.85 points at 2,971.50.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 6.89 points, or 0.06 per cent, to end at 12,416.60. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 0.72 points, or 0.05 per cent, at 1,412.12. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.63 points, or 0.23 per cent, at 2,443.83.
