New Delhi: The markets ended in green with decent gains after swinging between the red and the green territory.
Asian markets ended weak and Nikkie was among the top loser losing around 113 points.
Technology was among the leader in today's market both in mid cap as well as frontline. Advances were maintained higher against the declines throughout the day.
Select FMCG and pharma stocks were relatively weak in today's trading session. The mid cap and small cap indices outperformed the benchmark indices. Newer listing like Mindtree, Parsvnath, First Source moved up further.
Sensex closed up 80.35 points or 0.62 per cent at 12,982.98, and the Nifty up 35.95 points or 0.96 per cent at 3770.55.
About 1705 shares have advanced, 839 shares declined, and 82 shares are unchanged.
ONGC, M&M, Suzlon and ABB were among the major gainers. Heavies like HLL followed by Ranbaxy and Reliance Enegy closed in red. Other than FMCG all the other BSE sector indices ended in green.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 6,434.87 up 117.2 points or 1.86 per cent.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.01 per cent at 6,538.68. UTI Bank, Union Bank, IOB, Canara Bank, PNB moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.2 per cent at 8,852.51. KEC Infrastruct, Praj Industries, Dredging Corp, ABB, Carborundum closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.9 per cent at 3,521.97. Orchid Chemical, FDC, Glenmark, Divis Labs, Cipla closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,947.66 up 1 per cent. Escorts, Mah and Mah, TVS Motor,Cummins, Tata Motors surged.
The BSE Metal Index closed up 1.07 per cent at 8,227.89. Welspun Guj, JSW Steel, JindalStainless, Tata Steel, Guj NRE Coke advanced higher.
The BSE IT Index gained 0.7 per cent at 5,036.51. Moser Baer, Mphasis, TCS, Satyam, HCL Info advanced.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed gained 1.08 per cent to close at 6,213.36. GAIL, ONGC, Chennai Petro, HPCL ended in green. The BSE FMCG Index ended flat at 1,662.68.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8125.02 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27434.3 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4177.96 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 39737.28 crore.
