Renault has announced its plans for a new Alpine sports car for the first time in over 20 years. The French carmaker unveiled the Alpine Vision show car in Monte Carlo on February 16.

Renault's show car Alpine Vision is powered by a new 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. Its light weight allows the automobile to achieve 0-100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds, which is the target for the future production model.

The styling of the Alpine Vision evokes the design of the much-beloved Alpine A110 Berlinette for a look that is "immediately recognizable as an Alpine yet resolutely modern," outlined Michael van der Sande, Alpine managing director.

French car manufacturer Alpine was founded in 1955 and then bought by Renault in 1973. Renault made the last Alpine in 1995.

The new Alpine sports car is set to go on sale in 2017 in Europe and then in other markets worldwide. It will be manufactured in Dieppe, France.
