As the sedan segment is slowly losing its charm in India, the SUV and Coupe vertical is booming like anything. The reasons are quite obvious. They come with impressive ground clearance, off-road capabilities, rooted driving, and spacious cabins. When it comes to the luxury segment, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe is leading the convoy effortlessly, all thanks to its bold stance, eye-catching road appeal and head-turning exhaust note, and unmatched performance!
As we heard a lot of buzz about the impressive-sized coupe, we decided to sit behind wheels, put it on the ordeal, and see if the car is worth Rs 1.71 cr (ex-showroom) or not.
Before starting the detailed article, let us clarify that we have driven the model to somewhere around 600 km, from Delhi to Chandigarh and back. What we felt about this car, everything is summed up in this short story.
In the era of reels, shorts, and YouTube videos, we will take you the old-school way. Just take a nice corner, sit, grab that coffee, and read about all the qualities, shortcomings and USPs of GLE 53 Coupe AMG lines.
Looks, it is what matters the most
Talking about the looks, it is the first thing that anyone would notice when rolling on the streets. The coupe comes with a bossy style statement, which seems like demanding a lot of attention without even asking. The massive AMG grill at the front with three silver arrows, the latest dynamism, and visuals, are what make it an unmistakable member of the AMG family.
The vehicle comes with a new emblem at the massive bonnet, featuring a fully adaptive LED headlight setup, paired with singlet DRLs. The coupe has been treated with fresh bonnet, flaunting the perfectly designed edges and creases. The same effort can be seen at the back, as it gets a similar signet taillight with AMG and GLE 53 badging.
The vehicle runs on 22-inch stylish allow wheels (optional), which are not everyone’s cup of tea. The welcoming feature on the ground is what makes it worth spending a bomb.
Interior
As soon as you step inside the coupe, it will leave you with the thought ” It is Worth Every Single Penny”. The cabin screams loud with a whole luxury feel, perfectly blended with a futuristic approach and elegance. The AMG line-borrowed multi-function steering wheel is there to enhance the whole driving experience. It does not spoil the charm with a lot of physical buttons as it gets a sensitive approach on every corner.
To make it superior in the segment, the company has included two controllers on either side, facilitating the seamless transition to choose multiple driving modes between Comfort (default), Sport, Sport+, Individual, and Slippery. The interior features the highest level of fit and finish, exceeding every expectation in its class.
Engine, Power and Handling
Here comes the star of the show, the 3.0l turbocharged inline-6 engine. The powerful unit can generate a maximum power of 429 bhp and a robust 560Nm. The latest 48V mild-hybrid system puts an extra feather to its cap, contributing to the overall output by adding a further 21 bhp and 200Nm of peak torque. The whole powerhouse is mated with a 9-speed automatic and 4Matic AWD system.
It has been claimed by the brand that the vehicle can do 0 to 100 kmph sprint in mere 5 seconds. After the speed test, it checked the box with a big tick.
When it comes to driving and handling, we feel it is somehow beating every single rival that comes its way. It offers an insane-rooted driving experience and lets you feel that adrenaline rush. Most of the credit goes to air suspension, and all-wheel drive, which makes it a perfect companion on any terrain.
Amid this, a slight body roll can be felt, if taking sharp turns. Did we mention its exhaust note yet? If not, then it surely deserves a clapping as it is so loud that can make your presence felt as soon as you enter your society.
Verdict
Here comes our judgment. Well, we pushed the GLE 53 to the core. From driving it to the smooth surface to the rough patch to the bumpy roads, the vehicle did not let us feel as if it was struggling at any point, hats off to the robust powertrain.
It is worth mentioning that the GLE is not some random coupe, who tries to look cool under the perfect suit. It has been launched to serve a purpose, and it will hit all the chords if you flat your foot on the accelerate paddle.
If you have a good budget, and looking to uplift your garage, then the GLE 53 AMG line is a must-try option. At the price range of Rs 1.71 crore (ex-showroom), you are not purchasing a usual coupe, you are buying a permanent membership of a never-ending concert ticket of Tomorrowland. It will always force you to make excuses to go out and roam around in the city for no reason.
