A woman was detained after a man’s severed head and dismembered body were found stuffed inside a freezer in Brooklyn. Cops speaking to the New York Post said the woman was detained on unrelated warrants.
Police found the body parts early Monday morning (local time) when they received a tip about a body being “stored” at the fourth-floor unit on Nostrand Avenue near Farragut Road in Flatbush.
The tip was given to the cops by CrimeStoppers. The New York Police Department’s chief of detectives Joseph Kenny said they found the body after receiving the tip while they were conducting a patrol there.
“During the course of patrol’s investigation, they came across some body parts in the freezer. At this point we’re trying to identify that person,” Kenny was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The report said that the refrigerator was taped shut in a bid to prevent the rotting smell from spreading. “We have a head. We have some limbs. As of right now it seems like we have the whole body,” Kenny said on Tuesday (local time).
The woman who was inside the apartment when the police arrived was taken into custody because she had several open petit larceny warrants, the newspaper said. A person is guilty of petit larceny when they steal property, according to American laws.
The woman was later hospitalised. “(She was hospitalized because) she complained of illness. Investigators would like to speak with her, but hadn’t been able to do so by Tuesday afternoon, because she was still at the hospital,” Kenny told the newspaper.
The newspaper said the New York City Medical Examiner’s office will officially determine the man’s cause of death.
