Pink Floyd's "Eclipse" climbs to top 10 on US iTunes chart thanks to solar eclipse frenzy, showcasing enduring popularity

Pink Floyd’s classic track “Eclipse” has surged to the top 10 on the US iTunes chart, propelled by the recent solar eclipse frenzy.

Despite their status as one of the bestselling rock bands of all time, the band found themselves back in the spotlight thanks to the timely event.

“Eclipse” reached No. 8 on the US iTunes chart, surpassing contemporary hits by artists such as Jelly Roll, Pitbull, Dolly Parton, and even Beyoncé, Forbes reported on April 8.

The song’s sudden rise is attributed to the widespread excitement surrounding the solar eclipse that has captivated the nation.

Dark Side of the Moon — ‘Eclipse’

Featured on Pink Floyd’s iconic album “Dark Side of the Moon,” “Eclipse” is a decades-old tune that continues to resonate with audiences. The album itself holds the record for the most weeks spent on the Billboard 200 chart, underscoring its enduring popularity.

Despite its initial release in 1973, “Eclipse” did not achieve immediate success as a single. However, it made a resurgence in 2017 when it appeared on the Rock Digital Song Sales ranking during another solar event. That year, it peaked at No. 24 on the list of bestselling rock tunes in the country.

With the current surge in sales, “Eclipse” has the potential to make a significant impact on Billboard charts next week. If around one thousand Americans continue to purchase the song in the coming days, it could secure a spot on multiple Billboard charts. The track is already poised to re-enter the Rock Digital Song Sales ranking, with the possibility of debuting on the all-genre Digital Song Sales tally as well.
